Getting to Dubai

The journey from Wellington to Auckland went without any hitches. Transferred at Auckland to the international terminal and checked into our Emirates flight. Exciting! The leg to Melbourne was great. I had two spare seats next to me so I was able to put my feet up and relax. The kids were seated in the row in front and seemed to enjoy being together and exploring the technology that the plane offered: choice of movies - whole genres in fact, like bollywood, western, - creation of your own music playlists, news channels, information channels, the list goes on.... Typically as an older user I needed instruction from the kids, which they tolerated.

At Melbourne we collected more passengers and the plane filled up. To my great disappointment my spare seats were gone. This leg of the journey was going to be sheer endurance, I could tell. We'd already travelled for 5 hours (1 hour from Wellington; 4 hours from Auckland) and we had 12 hours to go! Even the great technology was not going to be enough to get us though this in good humour.
